Sept. 5

Welcome Back, Everyone!

Working hard in our math stations!

Worshipping with the whole HC student body.

We stopped to talk "Our family" photo!

We talked about God's people passing on the stories of God's Word.
So Ms. Snoeyink brought in a fake fire to help with the visual :)

Spent Thursday afternoon with our kindergarten buddies!

What a beautiful week it has been!  These kids are each carving out a pocket in my heart🥰.  As I get to know them better and better, I embrace what makes each one special, and I get excited as I see them enter the classroom each morning.  They are such a neat bunch!

This week we dove into our school wide SER behavior system (ask your child what that means!), we worshipped as an entire Holland Christian student body at our outdoor convocation service, we've been studying the early history of how and why the Bible came to be written down, we've been working with place value and rounding numbers, we're practicing our reading, and we're looking at how God designed the landscape so we can learn about the past.  We also met with Mrs. Short (our school counselor) to learn how to be the best people we can be.  It's been a busy week!

We have quite a few details on the blog today. Please take a peek at all the information :)

MATH & READING HOMEWORK - Today your child is taking home their first week of homework.  Reading and math minutes typically come home on Mondays, due back the next Monday.  But since this coming Monday is a holiday, I'm sending them home on Tuesday. They will be due back on Monday, September 11.  Your child heard the instructions in class today, but it would be helpful if you would read through the details yourself on the notes that came home today, and also on the back of the mad minute worksheet. I also created a video that helps explain all the papers found in their folder!

WORD WORK POSTPONED - Due to the continuation of reading assessments in our classroom, we are going to postpone the start of Word Work for one more week.  Therefore, your child will NOT be bringing home a spelling list today, as I previously stated.

STANDARDIZED TESTING - Next week will begin our benchmark standardized testing series for the fall.  The students will be taking three separate MAP tests (reading, math, and language) to identify their current abilities and help me to teach them more effectively.  We will also be taking the Delta screener which is a math test that tests the 3rd grade skills to be sure each child is up to par as they begin their 4th grade work.  If we find any deficiencies, those will be addressed in small group pull-outs until those skills are mastered.  As we proceed through this testing period (the next two weeks), please help your child to be well rested and nourished each day as they come to school.  That will help them to perform at their best.  Thanks for your help!

PICTURES & YEARBOOKS - Picture forms came home last week.  Our class school pictures will take place on September 13 @ 8:15.

Please note:  Be sure to order a yearbook.  It is always heartbreaking at the end of the year when most of the class receives a yearbook, but a couple kids don't.😢  You may send the completed order form (even if you ordered on-line) to me at school any time between now and picture day.

WALK-A-THON PLEDGES - On Tuesday please look for an envelope that comes home with the information for collecting pledges for the upcoming walk-a-thon.  It looks like the pledges have to be turned in by Sept. 20.
