Here's what's coming up this week in the academic world:
BIBLE - We are moving into a unit on the Judges. We will explore the cycle of sin that the Israelites found themselves in: Sin -> Enemy -> Repent -> Deliverer -> Peace
WORD WORK - We will again get a new, individualized list on Monday, practice over the course of the week, and then test on Friday.
MATH - We are practicing becoming experts at multi-digit addition and subtraction. All the math fact practice your child does at home GREATLY assists them in being successful with this skill. Thank you for supporting your child with this! Those will always be due on Mondays.
READING - We have finished all our beginning of the year assessments and are now settling into our routines. We spend a bit of time each day listening to a read aloud from a chapter book, then having a mini-lesson on our skill for the day (currently we are working on building strong reading habits), followed by some individual reflection time, and then independent reading.
WRITING - We are beginning a unit on Realistic Fiction. We are exploring some ideas for stories that we have in order to find one that we can create a masterpiece out of.
GRAMMAR - We are learning about how to make complete sentences that include both a subject and a predicate.
Just FYI - If parents would like meds administered to their children they should have filled out a medical consent form and dropped off that medicine to the Rose Park office.
Moms In Prayer - Preschool through fifth grade parents, you are invited to join Moms In Prayer! Every Monday morning at 8:35 in the conference room at the front office, please come as you are and join other parents who are passionate about praying over our children, staff and program! Come casual (workout clothes & messy buns welcome), leave fervent!
MUSIC NOTE FROM MRS. BOER - Let me introduce myself. My name is Rochelle Boer and I am your child's music teacher. I have been a teacher at HC for 27 years and a teacher in the Christian schools for 34 years.
Part of the music curriculum for fourth grade is learning how to play the recorder and read notated music. We would like to begin playing recorder the second week of October. If your child has a soprano recorder at home, they are welcome to use it. If you need to purchase one, your child may purchase one from me for $5. Some families may want to think about having two recorders, one at school to play and one at home to practice. The music classroom has recorders to borrow that are disinfected in case a student forgets their recorder on the day of music class but some don't feel comfortable with that. More information will follow later about recorder homework/practice expectations. I am excited about adding to our abilities to be Beauty Creators (one of our Discipleship Practices)!
