Sept. 11

A couple notes for this coming week:
1.  Homework: Reading minutes (pink long skinny paper), math minutes (yellow long skinny paper), and the Mad Minute fact test are all due on Monday.  A new set will also come home on Monday for the following week.  Remember, instructions for how to administer the fact test are on the back of the paper.

2.  Word Work: I've finished assessing students current spelling abilities and have chosen word work lists (also known as "spelling words") tailored to their individual needs.  Those will come home on Monday, and the test will take place at school on Friday.  The students will practice in school during the week, but some students also need additional practice at home prior to the test.  Please check with your child before Friday to see how they are doing with their words.  Thank you!

3.  School Pictures:  We are scheduled for pictures on Wednesday, the 13th at 8:15am (yea!).  Please make sure to send in the picture order envelope by Wednesday.  Remember to order a yearbook so your child can participate in the fun of getting autographs when they arrive at school in May☺️!

4.  Chapel:  Thursday morning at 8:30 is chapel time at Rose Park!  Please feel free to join us for worship if you are able.  This week I am in charge of the worship service, so stay tuned in case we're able to learn a song or two to lead worship.

5.  Library: On Monday, your child took home their first few choices from our school library.  Those books will be due back next week on Monday again in order to get new books.  If your child needs to renew a book, that can be done as well until they have had sufficient time to finish it.

6.  MAP test: The students have been troopers tolerating all the beginning of the year assessing that has to happen for appropriate teaching to take place this year.  This coming week we just have two portions of the MAP standardized test to complete:  Math and Language.  At this point, it looks like we will try to get those done on Tuesday and Thursday.  There's nothing you need to do at home for this, but if possible, try to avoid pulling your child out from school on those days.  Thanks so much!

7.  Walk-a-thon pledges are due Wednesday the 20th!

Additional Annoucments:
MUSIC NOTE FROM MRS. BOER
 - Let me introduce myself. My name is Rochelle Boer and I am your child's music teacher. I have been a teacher at HC for 27 years and a teacher in the Christian schools for 34 years.
Part of the music curriculum for fourth grade is learning how to play the recorder and read notated music. We would like to begin playing recorder the second week of October. If your child has a soprano recorder at home, they are welcome to use it. If you need to purchase one, your child may purchase one from me for $5. Some families may want to think about having two recorders, one at school to play and one at home to practice. The music classroom has recorders to borrow that are disinfected in case a student forgets their recorder on the day of music class but some don't feel comfortable with that. More information will follow later about recorder homework/practice expectations. I am excited about adding to our abilities to be Beauty Creators (one of our Discipleship Practices)!

Spirit Week is next week - a flyer should be coming home with your students soon!
HC Homecoming is next week Friday, September 15 at 7pm - you’re invited, tickets here!

Parent/Guardian Volunteers - If you are interested in volunteering and joining for any school events we need an ichat form and a copy of your drivers license previous to your attendance at events. This can be filled out and e-mailed to rp@hollandchristian.org or dropped off at Rose Park at your earliest convenience - a new form must be filled out each school year!

Carpool edits are still underway you may have noticed we are giving the carpool lane the right of way as soon as they start moving - if you’re in the parking lot or on the sidewalk please wait until all three lanes have cleared before you attempt to walk to your cars or pull out of the parking lot! Thanks!
