In September we got the opportunity to gather together as a WHOLE HC student body and spend some time in worship. This was a neat and unique time for us to introduce our school theme, "All In" and look at what it meant for us, for the 2016-2017 school year. Hard to believe that was 9 months ago already! This week, we went back to that same place to conclude our year together. What a blessing it was to worship together again, although tough, missing 4 of our own. It was a neat time to reflect on God and trust His will for our lives. 

This week was the LAST week for math homework! Thanks for helping and guiding your children in this throughout the year!  Final reading slips are due this MONDAY!

FIELD TRIP:

Trying on the Cappon's clothes!

We will be going on our last field trip THIS COMING Wednesday, May 24! We will leave school at 8:45am, visit Graafschap CRC's Heritage Center, tour the Cappon House, and eat lunch in the park to name a few things! We will arrive back to school around 2:30pm. Please make sure that you child has a sack lunch this Wednesday and if possible, disposable things to go along with it. THANK YOU!

MOVE UP DAY:
Next week Thursday afternoon is a special one 2nd grade. It's MOVING UP DAY! This means that your child will get an opportunity to visit Pine Ridge, meet next year's teachers, and go on a school tour. This has always been a great experience in the past and we expect no different this year! It's a great way for the students to transition to a new school! I'm sure you'll hear lots of great stories!

LAST CHAPEL:

You don't mess with this class!

Mark your calendars! You won't want to miss this! On the last day of school, June 2, we will have a special "goodbye" chapel for the 2nd graders at 10:45. This a beautiful time where we come together as students, teachers and parents and thank God for the gift of South Side and ask His blessing on the 2nd graders as they move on to Pine Ridge! It's a touching and VERY memorable chapel! Try to make it if you can and bring the tissues! 
Dismissal will shortly follow this at 11:30. 

HOT LUNCH:

Please check your child's Hot Lunch Balance. Anything not paid will carry over to next school year, but the kitchen would love to get everyone in the clear now. Thanks!!

It's been another fun week! Here's a shout out to all you wonderful Mamas! We hope you enjoy the gift that we made for you when you open it this weekend! :) The kiddos worked hard on it. At school we constantly notice the love, care, and support that you provide for your child. Enjoy the time spent celebrating YOU this weekend! Dads--you're pretty great too, but your special day will be coming in June. :) 

We had lots of fun marching together as a class in the Tulip Time parade! Thanks for helping us get your kiddos ready to go...they did an awesome job! 

Convocation Chapel: 

Last September, we had the opportunity to meet together as an entire HC community to kick off our "All In" school year. We will have our closing convocation chapel this Tuesday, May 16. You are invited to come worship with us in the High School gym if you are available. Let's celebrate God's faithfulness as He was with us through every mountaintop and valley experience this school year.

Yearbook:
The South Side/Pine Ridge Yearbook will be arriving soon! If you did not order one with your child's photos, you can still go online and order one ASAP for $8.00 at www.geskusphoto.com. You will then select "Order Yearbook" and follow the prompts after you select our school's name. If you are not sure if you've already ordered one, you may contact the school secretary to check. This year, we will NOT have EXTRA in the office so you will want to order one online NOW if you did not order one with your child's pictures!

Holland History Field Trip: 

We will be going on our last field trip on Wednesday, May 24! Volunteers, please be at school around8:40, as we will leave school at 8:45am. We will visit Graafschap CRC's Heritage Center, tour the Cappon House, and eat lunch in the park to name a few things! We will arrive back to school around 2:15pm. Please make sure that your child has a sack lunch, and if possible, disposable things to go along with it. THANK YOU!

Movin' Up Day: 

Thursday, May 25 will be a special day in 2nd grade. It's MOVING UP DAY! This means that your child will get an opportunity to visit Pine Ridge, meet next year's 3rd grade teachers, and go on a school tour. This has always been a great experience in the past, and it helps settle the nervous butterflies that students may have about the changes to a new building. I'm sure you'll hear lots of great stories about the students' visit! Class lists for next year will be going home before this experience so students can see right where they'll be next year.

This was the final week to check out Library books. Please remember to return all library books next week. We will continue to have Library, but it will just be a story/enjoy reading books time. If parent volunteers are still willing/able to come, there will be volunteer work to help with. If something comes up though, it is not as pressing to have you there. Thanks for helping us out in the Library this year--we couldn't do it without your help!!!

WRITING CELEBRATION:
Parents please join the second grade students on May 10 for a celebration of our Poetry Unit. Students will be sharing poems they have been working on over the last few weeks.  Our celebration will take place from 11:00-11:30am. We would love to see you there!

TULIP TIME:
Thank you for turning in your Tulip Time slips. On Thursday we will participate in the Kinderparade! Please choose from the following options for Thursday: 
- Send your child to school in his/her Dutch Costume 
- "Practice" trying on the costume at home so your child knows exactly what to do when putting it on at school by himself/herself. 
- Send your child to school in normal attire and stop by between 11:30-12:00 to help your child get his/her costume on.
- Your child will also need a SACK LUNCH on Thursday--hot lunch is not offered. 

We will hang out together at school (usually with some time to play and a movie) and then board the bus when it gets closer to parade time. The bus will bring us to our Line-Up spot and we will march the whole parade route (We are in the 2nd Division this year). The parade ends at Kollen Park--please meet us at the fire station promptly. It is located directly across from the park. You will NEED to hand us your child's TULIP NAME-TAG before you leave with your child. 

On Monday we will have our Parade Practice. I will determine our class line up and then send you a page home that shows which side of the street you'll want to sit on.
