March 29, 2021

These kids are involved in hard work and deep thought these days at school, and they are growing by leaps and bounds.  I've recently completed report cards which came home on Friday and I spent the weekend preparing notes for our conference meetings.  I'm looking forward to celebrating with you all that your child has accomplished so far this year!  We only have 8 weeks of learning left Only one quarter of the year left (but I'm not talking about that because I don't want this year to end๐Ÿ˜ข).

Enjoying the sunshine during lunch

On Friday, we spent the last hour of the day creating Marble Rollercoasters. The students paired up and worked hard in the hallway creating different tracks.

CHEPE SE BANA - This week our HC Sync students invited our student body to join them in raising funds to help bring justice to Costa Rica.  If your child has been asking you for some spare change, here are the details:

NEXT WEEK - In anticipation of Spring Break starting on Friday next week, I will not be sending home math or reading minutes homework (although I still HIGHLY recommend that kids do it anyway!๐Ÿ˜‰), nor will there be any word work words next week.  We have some fun celebrations of our learning planned for next week instead (a reading celebration, some outdoor symmetry learning at the Outdoor Discovery Center, some STEM learning, a zoom field trip to the capitol in Lansing, just to name a few).

MATH TEST - We are still going to accomplish some learning this week and that includes a math test on fractions. We practiced and reviewed in the class for the past two days. We will have this test on Tuesday.

SACK LUNCH ON THURSDAY - Please send along a sack lunch on Thursday since we will be engaging in some outdoor learning on the property at the Outdoor Discovery Center.  It sounds like it will be a bit chilly that day too, so an extra layer or two of clothing might be a good idea as well.

YEAR BOOK - If you did not have a chance to order a 2020-21 Rose Park yearbook this past fall when you ordered your child's school pictures, please follow this link to place your order.

HAC Splash and Dash - Holland Aquatic Center is excited to announce a USA Triathlon sanctioned Splash and Dash. This is both a youth and adult event that features an age group designated swim and run. The date is set for Saturday, April 24 at Holland Aquatic Center. See attached flier and event guide for more details. Registration is available on the HCAC website or HERE.

Kilwin's Scavenger Hunt - Kilwin’s spring break scavenger hunt can help to break up your staycation boredom. If you complete the following list during spring break, you can come in for a free kids scoop of ice cream (limit one/kid ages 12 and under). 1. Draw a picture of yourself traveling to the moon. 2. Find one fire safety tip. 3. Write down what MI city is most known for cherries. 4.Write a paragraph about your real life superhero. 5. Write down your favorite Kilwins sweet treat. To claim the prize, you must have a parents signature and show us at least two things you’ve completed. Good Luck!”

Challenging our desk neighbor's to a game of Math Slide.

Mid victory dance!

Showing off our drawings on St. Patrick Day. The students watched a How to Draw video on Youtube.

They created AMAZING masterpieces!

What have we been learning? - Just thought I would give you an update on what we have been doing in our different subjects.
Math - Fractions. Fractions. Fractions! Introducing the role fractions play in our lives. The students are learning how to add and subtraction fractions with the same denominators. They are also practicing how to change fractions into mixed numbers and improper fractions.
Writing - Just wrapped up our last persuasive writing unit. The students came home with an copy of their persuasive essay. Take a peek! Our next unit is literary essay.
Reading - We are wrapping up our non-fiction or information unit. The students are currently researching and reading about one specific topic to share out/present to their classmates.
Bible - Kings, kings, and more bad kings. We are currently reading through the historical books in the Old Testament. The students are learning about the nitty gritty of the Kings of Israel and Judah. At the end of every disappointing story, we are reminded that God is working through these families because the King of Kings will come from this family tree.
Social Studies -  We are starting our unit on Government! Even through our trip to Lansing is not possible, we will find ways to bring this unit to life.

Kilwin's Spring Break Challenge - Kilwin’s spring break scavenger hunt can help to break up your staycation boredom. If you complete the following list during spring break, you can come in for a free kids scoop of ice cream (limit one/kid ages 12 and under). 1. Draw a picture of yourself traveling to the moon. 2. March 12

Enjoying the warmer weather.

Maker's Day #2 - Egg Drop
Students worked hard to design and create with the different materials.

Thank you for the donations. The recycled materials were perfect for our creations.

Everyone was so proud of their creations. We only had 3 eggs break!

The eggs had to survive a 13-14 foot drop.

Recorders - Students go to music class on Thursdays, so starting this coming week, recorders should get packed in the backpack on Wednesday evenings every week.  If you ordered one from school, it will be waiting for you in music class this first week.

Remote Learning Day - This coming Friday, March 19 will be a remote learning day.  I will send home a list and some homework with the kids on Thursday so that they can complete it on Friday at home.  They can return their completed work on Monday.

No Word Work next week!
