MARKET DAY - All project proposals must be submitted by Monday (use pgs. 5-7 in the business journal to prepare your proposal).  Then, by Thursday the 6th, pgs. 8-10 must be filled out and turned in.

If you would like to volunteer on Market Day, please sign up here.

Thanks in advance for your help!

The business journal should be stored in your child's backpack at all times - that way you have it at home each night in case you need it, and we have it at school each day when we need it.

MATH FACT PRACTICE - Continue with 10 minutes of quality division fact practice daily, aimed at accuracy as well as increased speed over time.  Thanks for your help with this!

READING MINUTES - Let's continue that great growth in reading this year.  Remind your kids to get 30 minutes of reading in every night or 150 for the week.  If they are stuck in a rut and need book suggestions, please let me know.

It's almost February and VALENTINES Day is Coming! - We keep our celebration simple by making a small craft (valentine bag), exchanging valentines, and enjoying a treat.  We will plan on doing this Thursday, February 13 at the end of the day.  If you would like to provide a treat and/or drink for the kids, please let me know.  Look for a list of our class names coming home next week so you don't forget anyone.  Thanks!!

Hoops & Hoopla 2020!  It’s a night of hoops, featuring the dueling staff basketball teams of ZCS and HCS, along with 56ers scrimmages and a Unified slam dunk contest.  Come also for the hoopla– photos with Elsa, Anna & friends, carnival games, bounce houses, and more, on Saturday, February 1, starting at 6:15 pm at Holland Christian High School.  All this family fun for a suggested donation of $5 ($20 per family). Proceeds of this game will go to help make the HCHS band & orchestra trip to Florida in April affordable for the over 90 students participating.

Fun Night Date Change
Since our school-wide blog was published last week, our Fun Night date has been moved. We would like to allow as many students and families as possible to attend our Kid Stuff Resale on the previous date. Please note: the Kid Stuff Resale will be held on Saturday, March 7. Our Family Fun Night will be held at Rose Park on Friday, March 20. More details forthcoming!

January 17, 2020

Welcome to a new calendar year!  We are off and running upon the return from our two-week break for the holidays. After three sick days and LOTS of rest, I am bouncing back and so glad to be back in the classroom. I missed my community :)

JUST A FRIENDLY REMINDER...that our school day begins at 8:15.  The first bell rings at 8:10, and students start working at 8:15.  We've had a lot of latecomers this past week and that makes it difficult to give your kids the quality education that they deserve.  If you need to set the alarm a few minutes earlier or leave the house sooner, we'd appreciate that effort in getting to school in a timely manner.  Thanks for your attention and support in this area!  We truly make good use of every minute your child is in school.  :)

ADVANCE NOTICE - On Friday, January 24, we will be going on a snow shoe (weather permitting) and skull detective field trip to the Hemlock Crossings Nature Center.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES - We're at a point in the year where we now have a couple months of winter ahead of us.  This would be a great time for you to take a little time to volunteer at school! 😉 Your kids love having you present at school, even if they won't admit it!  Thanks in advance!

Math Helpers - Email me if you are interested in helping with a math game during our math stations.
Making Copies - A teacher ALWAYS has copies or laminating to be done for our learning :) Please email if you have an extra hour to feel productive for someone else ;)

END OF SEMESTER! - We are halfway through the year - yikes!  Where did the time go?  As we start a new marking period on Monday, please know that we will now be practicing DIVISION facts during our 10 minutes of daily math fact practice.  Any student who had an extra math packet at home, should return that to school on Monday since I would like everyone to spend the first few weeks of this marking period practicing division facts.  If, after a couple weeks, your child has demonstrated a mastery of these facts, I will return their packet to them and let them run with it again.  If your child likes to use the computer as one of their practice methods, you can find some division fact practice sites here. (A link from our 4th grade team across the hall)

READING MINUTES REQUIREMENT CONTINUES - Thanks for reminding your student to bring their reading minutes in every Monday.  Fourth grade expectation is 30 minutes per day or 150 per week.  If your child is in a rut, please let me know, and I will give them suggestions for reading at home when we are at the library on Mondays.
