May 26

Our learning is not over yet though!  We have some fun projects planned for this upcoming final week of school, as well as a great field trip.

Field Day Pictures!

Movie Trailers: The students have SOAKED in this historical fiction unit. I loved seeing how their excitement fueled their determination and learning. As a final project, the kids created Historical Fiction Movie Trailers for their books. Click on the link and view these trailers in a Google Drive folder!

A Note from Nicole Kammeraad: Hello, I am planning a little celebration for the kids and Miss Snoeyink for Tuesday, May 30 @ 2:30 pm in the classroom. Miss Snoeyink would like to play Scattergories, and they will have a treat and drink while they play. Miss Snoeyink said a few parents could help with the groups during the game, but all are welcome to come! If you would like to come please let me know! I will plan to get a few ice cream treat options with no clean up (think: Ice Cream bars, sandwiches, etc). If there's an allergy out there (besides nuts - Eli), please let me know! Thank you, Nicole Kammeraad (nicole.kammeraad@gmail.com)

FINAL WEEK NOTES:

Tuesday - Yearbooks will be distributed.

Wednesday - Field Trip to Grand Rapids Public Museum.  We will be leaving first thing in the morning (8:15), so this is not a day to be late!  Please send along a sack lunch with a drink for this trip as well.

Thursday - Clean Up Day! Please make sure your child has a bag for all their desk materials and treasures.

AND Water Battle (If the kids ALL hand in their homework, we will have a "pool toys" water battle in the soccer field. More details to come!)

Friday - Last 1/2 day (11:30 dismissal)!  Please look for your child's baton to come home this day as well.  You will need to hang on to that and return it to your 5th grade teacher when you come back to school in August.

Lunch Accounts: To deposit lunch money into the meal magic portal, there is a new site address: hollandchristian.familyportal.cloud

Everything will look the same, you won't have a drop down for the school site. Thank you for taking care of your balances!  Have a great summer!

HC Football Family Fun Night for 3rd-8th graders (Fall 2023 grades): This is a free event on Tuesday, May 30 from 6:30-8PM at HCHS Football Stadium for current 2nd thru 7th graders who are interested in playing football next Fall at Holland Christian. Whether you are just curious about playing or all-in, come on out for a fun night of knockerball, dodgeball, air force football, and ice cream sundaes.  This is a fun way to meet the coaches, players, and parents who are involved in HCS Football at different levels.  Kids will be split by age group for competitions (2nd/3rd, 4t/5th, 6th/7th). Parents are encouraged to attend at the end of the event as there will be a time of Q&A with the coaches, staff, and players.  We hope to see everyone there, Go Maroons!!!

I'm trying to pretend the school year isn't quickly winding down.  I would like to spend the rest of my days teaching these children.  I'm not ready to think of saying good-bye yet.  So for now, just pretend with me that we have many happy memories to make together yet.😉

Convocation at the high school - A beautiful time of worship together as a body of Christ.

Equivalent Fractions Dominoes and walks with Rosie and Parker

Prepping for the plant sale and helping Mrs. Bos with Kindergarten visiting day.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! - Our plant sale was a HUGE success!  We were able to donate $963 to the Rose Park Ranch to help keep Parker, Rosie, and the chickens fed for a while!

BOOK FAIR - You may have seen the flier advertising the book fair.  Students will not be making purchases during the school day, but they will be browsing and creating a wish list on Tuesday.  They will share that list with you, and you may purchase the books on your own time while the sale is open Wednesday-Friday, 11-4:30.

FIELD DAY - Wednesday afternoon we will spend the afternoon outdoors being active.  Be sure your child is prepared with appropriate footwear, clothing, water bottle, and sunscreen if needed.

BAND, ORCHESTRA, or MUSIC? - Please be sure to fill out the paperwork that came home on Thursday regarding your child's choice of music for 5th grade.  The directors would like that form back by Tuesday (the 23rd). If your child chooses to audition for percussion, they will need to have their piano music with them (1 year of lessons minimum required) and be ready to play it at school on Tuesday the 23rd.

Field Day: Are you willing to help our Field Day run smoothly? We're looking for parent helpers to join us in the fun on Wednesday, May 24 in the afternoon. If you're willing, please sign up here

Negative lunch balances! Please be mindful of your student's  negative lunch balances.  You can make a payment at familyportal.cloud  with a credit card, with no fee.   I do not want to call families to remind them about their negative balances.  All positive balances do carry over to the following school year.
Thank you for your help and support!

HC Athletics Notes
Summer Sports Camps - In addition to adding ETS session E, we also added baseball camps the week of June 25.  Registration has an early bird rate for camps until 2 weeks before the camp starts, so get registered today! https://hollandchristian.org/summer-23-sports-camps/

Final Forms Athlete Registration is ready for the 23-24 school year.  Parents need to log into their account and select the sports their child is interested in participating in.  Please do this now so coaches can communicate summer opportunities.  Your 23-24 MHSAA Pre-Participation Physical can be completed anytime between now and the start of the next sport season.  Your physical form should be printed from your Final Forms account after your forms have been completed.  You can then upload a scan or photo of your 1 page completed physical form to your child's FF account.

  • Holland Christian Physical Night offers discounted Sports Physicals to to families not able to see their PCP due to insurance reasons.  Please register for our May 31 Physical Night soon if you plan to take advantage of this opportunity.  There are still slots available for 6:45pm and later.  https://maroonsathletics.org/Registration
  • Our Middle School teams are officially moving from the MKO Conference to the West Michigan Middle School Conference (WMMSC) for the 23-24 school year.  All 14 MKO schools have been accepted along with Zeeland Christian from the AOK league.  The WMMSC now has a total of 38 member middle schools.  Our travel will be significantly reduced with our new 7 team "Southwest Division" for the bulk of our event scheduling.  These schools are West Ottawa, Hamilton, Holland, HC, ZC, Creekside & Cityside.
  • Holland Christian will be competing with WMMSC tennis schools who mirror the HS season.  Boys MS tennis will now be in the fall and girls MS tennis will now be in the spring.  These seasons are updated on Final Forms for parents to see when they select sports for their 6th-8th grade children for the 23-24 school year.  In order to plan effectively, it is important for MS tennis families to register on Final Forms as early as possible.

We are continuing with Eventlink for our schedules, tickets and passes for the 23-24 school year.  Many of you have expressed how nice it is to use the app for practice and event calendars on your phone, especially with multiple children in sports.  Schedules for 23-24 will be appearing soon and tickets/passes will be available after we get into the summer.  The following link will help get you started with using the Eventlink App and/or connect you to the public website with the same information.
