JANUARY 25, 2019
Learning to follow a beat and read music can be so much fun.

Winter is finally here in full swing. I hope you can find a way to enjoy the fresh snow and also not lose your nose and cheeks to frostbite :). This week had a couple changes and different routines. We had two days off, a late start, glow party in music, and our last MAP test. These changes are exciting but also tiring for them. I am proud of their effort through the changes and their desire to learn and be at school.

Sometimes you need to just practice playing together for the last 15 minutes of the day.

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
On Monday, Fish Folders  will include:
- Report Cards
- Basic Facts Papers
- Final Writing Story
- Misc. Papers
On TUESDAY, Homework Folder will include:
- Math Homework (Orange paper)
- Reading Minutes
- New list of Spelling words

Report Cards:
Just a reminder: In 3rd grade, we only give a letter grade in math. The rest of the areas are measured with the number scale of...
3 - Mastered (above) - They have mastered the skill and can perform if asked.
2 - Proficient (on track) - They are growing in the skill and their learning is on track for 3rd grade.
1 - Progressing (growth needed) - They are struggling to preform the skill on their own and this skill is an area of growth.

Blanket Fort Celebration (RESCHEDULED):
On MON, Jan. 28, we are going to have some fun in the classroom. We are going to make a blanket fort in the classroom. I will provide the blankets and the students just need to bring a stuffed animal. (The stuffed animal must be able to fit in their backpack.)

100th Day of School:
Friday, Feb 1 will be our 100th day of school! WOW! We are looking forward to celebrating 100 days of God's faithfulness together. In celebration, we are encouraging the students to dress like they are 100 years old! (No wheelchairs or walkers, our classroom just isn't big enough!) Don't feel like you need to go and buy things....just get creative with this!

NOTE FROM MR. BRANDSEN:
This is a reminder to all parents and drivers to never park and leave your car in the curved drop off drive between 7:30 and 8:20 in the morning. The curved driveway is meant for drop off only at the curb. When cars park on the curb and the driver leaves, it becomes dangerous for others trying to drop their children off, some having to cross from the other side of the driveway. Again, Preschool through 6th grade, please do not park in the drive, but only stop along the curb long enough to drop off your students.
If you wish to get out of your car, please find a spot to park in our parking lot and accompany your students into school.Since Mr. Brandsen cannot be out there every morning to greet and monitor, I need to ask for and depend upon everyone honoring this request for the safety and protection of all of our precious students at Rose Park. Thank you for your cooperation.

We are halfway through the year. Wednesday was our halfway mark through the year. It is amazing to think that we are halfway through our school year. Where did those days go?!? I look forward to the second half of our school year and how God will work through these young minds and hearts in our classroom.

*Thank you for the cleaning/disinfectant wipes. They have been used A LOT this week. I appreciate the gifts for our classroom.

MAP Tests:
For the next two weeks, our students will be participating in taking a couple tests. There are three assessments that the students will take on their iPad. These tests are based on our curriculum teaching points and standards. These tests are just a window into your child's growth and learning. In order to do their best, I will be walking around the room to help, giving them 10 minutes breaks to move and eat something, and encouraging them to shine. How can you help? Continue to provide a great breakfast and enforcing that necessary sleep!
Thank you for all you do at home.

January 11, 2019

This past Saturday, I spent the afternoon at a training about children living live with Trauma. I learned about helpful tricks and tips to help those in our class self-regulate and calm down their bodies, instead of being on high alert! I learned so much.
I reminded the students of this today,
"You are safe. You are loved."
