Jan. 28

The last 30 minutes of Friday are meant for playing with your peers!

Loved seeing the new ways to play on the playground!

We celebrated Michigan's "state" birthday on Wednesday.
Ms. Grant was enjoying the perks of typing on Ms. Snoeyink's laptop.

WINTER GAMES: Next week, Ms. Raak is going to do the "Winter Games" with our 3rd graders. Please continue to send snow gear to school. They will need it for PE on Monday and Thursday. Thanks for being flexible!

100th DAY OF SCHOOL: Wednesday, Feb 9 will be our 100th day of school! WOW! We are looking forward to celebrating 100 days of God's faithfulness together. In celebration, we are encouraging the students to dress like they are 100 years old! (No wheelchairs or walkers, our classroom just isn't big enough!) Don't feel like you need to go and buy things....just get creative with this!

Valentine's Day Celebration: We are going to celebrate Valentine's Day with a small party on Monday, Feb. 14th. A class list was sent home on Friday. Please make sure that if your child is bringing Valentine's that they bring a card for each student in the class OR for students of the same gender. We will be passing out these invitations in the afternoon and celebrating with some pink lemonade and some fresh fruit. If you would like to donate some fresh fruit for our party, send me an email!

GRAND RAPIDS CHILDREN'S MUSEUM: On Monday, March 7, we will headed out on another field trip! We are headed to the GR Children's Museum with our kindergarten friends. We will leave school around 8:30 and return to school after eating lunch. Your child will need a packed lunch to eat at the museum. Parent/s are welcome to join us. We are asking any volunteers to pay $10 for admission and meet us at the museum (50 kiddos on the bus...will be a bit much). Please let me know if you would like to join us on the trip. We would love to have you join us!

What are we learning?

Math: Starting our measurement and data unit - Studying units of length and liquid volumes
Writing: Beginning to draft our persuasive essay
Reading: Learning how to read information texts
Social Studies: Learning about the economy of Michigan and what is an economist
Bible: Learning about the life of Moses and how God is was with him through his whole life.

REPORT CARDS: Today, you will receive an email about viewing your child's report card. This report card will be visible through Powerschool. If you have any troubles viewing the report card, please send the front office (Carla or Laura) an email. I am excited to share the progress your child is making and the ways we can help them grow!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MICHIGAN! On Wednesday (Jan 26), we will be celebrating some Michigan history, which is a part of our 3rd grade social studies curriculum. We will be celebrating Michigan's statehood! The students can celebrate by wearing Michigan wear. A MSU or U of M apparel, a shirt from Leland, Pure Michigan shirt, ANYTHING that connects to our state!

FIELD TRIP Review: The Air Zoo was a success! Huge airplanes, amusement rides, historical facts, pilot's apparel, artifacts, and so much more! We had the whole place to ourselves and the kids were so respectful. I was truly blessed by their behavior and excitement for the trip. Hope you heard great stories :)

WINTER CLOTHING:
"The weather outside is frightful"...and just plain cold! Thank you for providing warm winter wear for your child. My rule is "Snow on the ground, snow pants on you!" Please continue to send your child with mittens/gloves, snow pants, coat, and boats. With these single digit temp days, I will make sure your child has everything on and is dressed for the weather! Thank you!
