Week of January 10

What are we learning?
Math: Finishing up our unit on multiplication and division practice
Writing: Beginning to draft our persuasive essay
Reading: Learning how to read information texts
Social Studies: Learning about the economy of Michigan and what is an economist
Bible: Learning about the life of Joseph and how God is was with him through his whole life.

NO SCHOOL on Monday, Jan. 17.

HOT LUNCH SWITCH: First choice for lunch this Wednesday, Jan 12, will be walking tacos (NOT the warm pretzel and chili).

HOMEWORK: New homework came home today in your child's folder. You will find...
- Math homework
- Reading minutes slip
- January's Bible Memory (Psalm 1)
- Flier about Rose Park Ranch

SPELLING WORDS: We will continue to practice the same list from last week. If your child's list in missing or dumped over the weekend, let me know and I can copy off a new list for you to use at home.

MAP TESTS: We will take two MAP tests this week. These tests will be "screener" test and will be MUCH shorter than the ones we take in the fall and spring. These tests will only take 20-30 minutes. I will use the results as a view into your child's growth and development in 3rd grade.

FIELD TRIP: We are going on a field trip to the Air Zoo in Kalamazoo on Wednesday, Jan. 19. This is an aero-space and science museum! There will be over 100 air and space related artifacts. We will leave school around 9:10 and return before 2:30. Each student will need a lunch to eat while we are there. Thank you!

WINTER CLOTHING:
"The weather outside is frightful"...and just plain cold! Thank you for providing warm winter wear for your child. My rule is "Snow on the ground, snow pants on you!" Please continue to send your child with mittens/gloves, snow pants, coat, and boats. With these single digit temp days, I will make sure your child has everything on and is dressed for the weather! Thank you!

REPORT CARDS: On Friday, Jan. 21, you will receive an email about viewing your child's report card. This report card will be visible through Powerschool. If you have any troubles viewing the report card, please send the front office (Carla or Laura) an email. I am excited to share the progress your child is making and the ways we can help them grow!
