Second Graders displaying their character trait posters.
Can you believe it? Our first semester is complete and we are about to celebrate our 100th day together?! Thanks for being an active part of our classroom, and for supporting us the many ways you do!

REPORT CARDS:
I am excited to share the growth and progress I've been seeing so far this year via the report card that is coming home today in your child's folder. Remember that a "3" indicates end of the year goals, so we are well on our way there! After browsing through your child's report card take note of any extra things you can practice at home together too: counting money, knowing subtraction facts, etc. Thanks for the great partnership this year! I'm looking forward to our second semester together.

WACKY WEDNESDAY
We have two left! Everyone set your alarm a little earlier on Wednesday so you have time to style a wacky hair-do! :)
February 1- Crazy Hair Day
February 8- Pajama Day

100TH DAY OF SCHOOL:
Thursday will be our 100th day of school! Where has the time gone? We are looking forward to celebrating 100 days of God's faithfulness together! We have lots of fun activities planned, and one of them is dressing like we are 100  years old! (No wheelchairs or walkers though, our classroom just isn't big enough!) Don't feel like you need to go buy things...just get creative with this! Click here for some ideas from last years class. Another thing we need you to have your child do is count out 100 pieces of your favorite cereal and bring it in a baggie with your child's name on it by Thursday morning. We'll provide the bowls, milk and spoons and we'll be having a breakfast together! Your child might need to eat a little at home too--100 pieces is not as much as you'd think! :)

HOMEWORK REMINDERS:
New spelling words are coming home today on a purple sheet. The test is on Friday, 2/3/17
- Purple Reading slips AND the third blue Reading Incentive slips (Pizza Hut pizza coupon) are DUE Monday

VALENTINE'S DAY PARTY:
We are going to celebrate Valentine's Day with a small party on Tuesday, Feb. 14. If your child would like to bring cards to pass out, there is a class list in today's Friday folder on pink paper. If you choose to fill out cards be sure to do it for the whole class OR all of the students with your same gender so we don't have any hurt feelings. Thanks!

LIBRARY HELPERS:
We still have some spots for a few more Library Helpers! Thanks for the great response with last week's plea! If you are available any Tuesdays between 12:45-1:15 we would love to have you come! It is a super easy job! :) Please click the link below to sign up!

MONDAY is MLK Jr. DAY:
Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. All of the South Side teachers have collaborated and prepared a day of meaningful learning for your child. Our desire is to come together as a school and spend the entire day living into the meaning of Dr. King's famous "I Have A Dream" speech. We hope to bring these words to life and offer experiences that will help our young children understand his hope for our future. We want our children to be inspired and excited to carry on the mission of this dream. These young children are the hope of our future, a vibrant future. If we equip them well, perhaps they can build a brighter, more inclusive future for all of God's children, better than we have been able. If you could, please send a bag, labeled with your child's name, to school on Monday. He/she will be busy collecting and creating a good deal throughout the day."
