August 26, 2016

We flew through our first week! Your child is learning the daily routines and settling in! It feels great to have a classroom buzzing with excitement, curiosity, and eagerness to learn new things about our great God and the world he has placed us in! Thank you for sharing your child with me each day! I'm going to try to keep this entry short and sweet with important things for you to note:

*With September approaching, we will be practicing Psalm 8, our September Bible Memory. A copy for your fridge went home today. :) Please try to practice this at home. Remember that we will recite this together various ways at school, but it would be great to have the practice at home as well. This passage is being done K-12 to create a passionate commitment to faith and development of the whole school body.

*Friday, Sept. 2 will be our 10th day of school, which means it will be our first Pocket Day. See if you can wear as many "store made" pockets to school as possible (no purses or fanny packs). We are competing against the other 2nd grade classes! Layer up those pockets if you can handle the heat!

*Want to help us spread the love of reading?  Be a story reader!  Our class is looking for someone each month to come in and share a book with the kids.  If you picked up a sheet at parent night, please return it by Sept. 9.  Or e-mail Christy Haig at christybeth@gmail.com to sign up.  This might be a fun opportunity for grandma or grandpa or another special adult in our children's' lives to participate in, so feel free to spread the idea to them too.

*Check out the Classroom Volunteer links on the right side to be lunch and library helpers! Our password to access the links is: maroons
Let's still give an opportunity to those who have not visited the site a chance to sign up this week. Tuesday, Sept. 6 you may go back in and select additional dates if you are available to join our class on the dates that are left. I appreciate your volunteering SO MUCH!

*We are all busy settling in to new routines, from school to soccer practices, etc. so we will ease into the year together. I recognize that families are busy with Labor Day weekend plans as well, so we'll start Reading and Math homework after that. Stay tuned for information on Spelling as well--our phonics curriculum is currently reviewing some concepts so we do not have word lists yet.

*Please remember that Batons are due by Weds. Sept. 7. There is a basket outside our classroom door. We will have a special convocation chapel at the high school at 9:00am on Weds., Sept. 7 if you would like to join us! More details will come soon.

*We need room moms! Sign up in the office if you'd like to be involved in our party planning this year! :)

*The green take home journal is coming home today. Please read your child's first entry, take a moment to respond back, and then send it back to school on Monday with your child's Friday folder.

*THANK YOU for your love, prayers, classroom donations, and support as we begin this new school year together! I am blessed to spend each day with your child!

Welcome to our class blog!!
You'll want to bookmark our site, as it will be full of important details and information about the year.  It is typically updated each Friday. Thanks for sharing your 2nd grader with me this year as we jump "All In," trusting Jesus to be our guide each step of the way!
