Week 7: Oct. 9

We did it!  We finally finished our personal narrative, and WOW are they great!  You're in for a treat when these make their way home around conference time!

We celebrated our writing success by sharing our stories with the other 4th grade class.  It was a treat to receive encouraging notes from our friends about our writing.

Way to go 4th graders!

MASKS - Thanks for your attention to keeping the masks clean and fresh each day!

REPORT CARDS - I'll be busy this week getting your child's report card ready - expect to see it come home on Friday.  Please look through it and celebrate it with your child.  I'll be ready to entertain any questions you have at our conferences the following week.

GRANDPARENTS - All grandparents received a letter from us this week.  Thanks for your help in supplying all the addresses we needed to make this possible!

CONFERENCES - Please remember to sign up for a time to meet with me via zoom for our first of two parent/teacher conferences this year.  They will be taking place on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19 & 20.  You should have received an email on Monday (Sept. 28) from Holland Christian instructing you on the sign up process.

MATH INTERVENTIONS - We are excited this year to welcome Miss Mandi Hulst as our Math Interventionist.  She will be using our Delta Math Screener to identify students who need a little additional help on some targeted skills.  These skills are identified as essential for your child to master their foundational math skills as they move throughout the grades. We have determined that if they are lacking mastery in these specific foundational skills it can impact their achievement in middle and high school courses as well as on their ACT/SAT.
If your child falls into this category at some point during the school year, they will be pulled out of math for 10-15 minutes up to 2 times per week to work on a specific skill. As soon as they master the targeted skill, they will be moved out of the group.
If you have further questions regarding this math intervention, please feel free to contact me.

Green Walk-a-thon T-Shirts - I would recommend hanging on to those shirts that came home a few weeks ago, at least for the duration of this school year.  Sometimes an event comes up later in the year where we decide to wear them again, so don't wear them for painting projects or send them off to Ditto quite yet.😁

Daily Math Minutes - Keep plugging away at those daily math minutes!  Remember, our goal is to increase speed (fluency).  So if your child's scores are not going up, investigate how they are practicing each day.  Is their practice method pushing them to be faster?  Thanks for your help with this!  Mastery of the facts is essential to a student's future success in math.  Math facts and mad minutes are due back at school every Monday, and a new set is issued again on Mondays.

Blue sky and sunshine calls for lunch outside! Enjoyed three days of sunshine with our sandwiches.
