Our blanket forts were a success!
We are building our own dream houses and figuring out the area and perimeter.
We did our morning work in the green house as we accomplished our barn chores.
We had a great opportunity to see the Holland Symphony at the Jack Miller Auditorium.
We built some long domino trains and measured the successful distance in centimeters. The winning total was 900 cm!
Mrs. Rietman is the BEST music teacher EVER!
Thank you: Thank you for making space in your day for our Parent Teacher Conferences. I am so proud of these students and all the hard work they have put into their learning. Thank you for allowing the students to led. I know that cuts into the adult conversations, but it is a joy for the students to see their "team" all gathered together to support them. If you have any questions or concerns from the report card or our time together in the conference, please send me an email :)
REPORT CARDS: Report Cards can now be viewed electronically. You can locate your child's report card on PowerSchool. I have learned that the best way to view the report card is on a desktop/laptop. A phone's view will only allow you to see the number scores, but does not show you the comments.
In 4th grade, your child will receive a letter grade for math, Bible, and spelling. These grades are based on tests taken throughout the quarter. We also use a number (1, 2, 3) grading scale.
As a teacher, these are how I view each number.
1 - Needs lots of support and is an area of concern. This is a skill we will continue to work on.
2 - Not quite mastery, but is able to use the skill independently with some help/support.
3 - Mastery of the skill. They do not need help or support. They are able to do this skill independently.
TULIP TIME is coming! 1st through 4th grade parents - please fill out this google form to indicate your students participation and attire for the Kinderparade on May 9th.
Swimming Lessons: Our Holland Aquatic Center is providing swim lessons for us again this year! I recognize this program is new for some children and families. Because our children are blessed to be raised in Michigan, surrounded by bodies of water, we believe this safety instruction is a blessing that we pray they will never need but feel responsible to equip them. If you find yourself pondering over the “why” of lessons, please take a listen to HC mom Jenny White on the why for swim safety. HCAC Swim School welcome video will help you understand a bit about the logistics. Our 1st-4th graders will be bused to the pool each day the weeks of April 14-25. We will be at the pool between 10-11am.
