May 10

I love having a class of dutch costumes and gardeners :)

Turned out a little wetter and colder than we had hoped, but they all came back Friday morning warm and dry so I guess it's safe to say we're no worse for wear!  Thanks for all your help and cooperation making sure everyone was safely in the hands of a trustworthy adult at the conclusion of the parade!

"WHY IS IS RAINING?"

This teacher was grateful for her personal day on Friday!

We enjoyed exploring energy again this week with a presenter from the BPW.  The presentation was highly engaging and the kids even came home with a yellow energy efficiency gift bag for your household!

PLANT SALE: I'm sure you've heard - the PLANT SALE is coming soon!  We've been preparing at school and are excited to see you May 22 starting at 7:30.  Please spread the word to all your family, friends, neighbors, church people, etc. - we're hoping for a BIG crowd!

Each student will be assigned a "shift" to work, and I will need a few who can be to school early on that Wednesday morning (7:30).  If you are able to get your student dropped off at 7:30 on Friday, please let me know and I will plug them into that first shift slot.  Thank you!

Two other plant sale requests:
1.  Each child should bring a lawn chair or blanket to use that morning as their outdoor learning space while they are not "working" the plant sale.
2.  If you have any boxes laying around that we could use to package up our customers' purchases, we will gladly accept those anytime next week.  Thank you!

A few final reminders:
  • ALL library books are due back for the year on Friday, May 17.
  • MAP testing next week.  Please try to limit unnecessary absences.  Thank you!

BAND/ORCHESTRA: On Friday the students will be hearing about band and orchestra options for next year. Watch for a handout to come home explaining the choices to you as well.  There will be information on that handout about how to indicate your child's desire for music in 5th grade.

Holland Christian Schools has  two scholarships that we would love to have you take a look at if your family qualifies, for this upcoming year:
  • The Hendershot Family Fund Scholarship was established to assist families who demonstrate financial need through completing a Tuition Grant Fund application and also have a child who qualifies for Educational Support Services (ESS) at Holland Christian Schools. If your family meets these two requirements, you can apply to be considered for this scholarship through the Hendershot Family Fund application form until May 17.
  • The Dave Slenk Memorial Scholarship was established to assist families who currently work in law enforcement and are enrolled at HC in K-12th grade. If your family meets these requirements, you can apply to be considered for this scholarship through the Dave Slenk Memorial Scholarship application form until May 17.
