Jan. 13

GREENHOUSE WORK - Our greenhouse is getting an upgrade!  Last year's 4th graders donated their plant sale money for us to install an irrigation system for the plants.  Since these 4th graders will use the greenhouse a lot for our spring plant sale, we are in charge of preparing the greenhouse for the sprinkling system.  We will need to move the plant beds that are currently full of soil.  On THURSDAY, we will be heading out there to shovel all the dirt out of the beds so they can be moved.  A few days later, once the irrigation system is complete, we will shovel it back in.  Could you please send a round point digging shovel (something like in the picture below) to school with your child by this week THURSDAY? It would be most helpful if you could label with your last name as well.  We'll plan to keep it here until the project is finished since you likely aren't doing much digging outside right now anyway. Thank you!

Fri. Jan. 24th (12:00-2:30pm) - Field Trip to Hemlock Crossing Sign Up HERE!

WINTER WEATHER - Please continue to ensure that your child comes to school with the appropriate winter weather wear for recess.  All students will go outside during each recess, so sending along the appropriate clothing and boots will help them be more comfortable.  There are also times we do some of our learning outdoors or at the ranch, so children need to be prepared for unannounced, pop-up trips outside.

TESTING - We are doing a fair amount of testing this coming week as we end the first semester.  We have both curricular unit tests (Bible test on Friday - watch for a study sheet!), and standardized tests (MAP, Delta Screener - those will be on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday).  Please help your child be successful by ensuring a good night's rest and nutritious meals and snacks.

Gadgets for Christmas: Just in case a child receives a smart device or personal tech with connectivity, we want to remind you of our policy to uphold healthy learning spaces throughout HC to the best of our ability.

Personal Technology: Personal Technology is not necessary in a school setting and disrupts the learning environment. Personal Technology includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Cell Phones

  • Smartwatches

  • Headphones or Earbuds

  • Personal Laptops

  • MP3-Players

  • Etc. (i.e. Any non-school issued personal technology)

If parents need to communicate with their student, they can send their student an email or call the office and get a note from the office.  Personal Technology items are not allowed to be used or visible during the time a student enters school until the final bell rings. If a student needs to use their phone, they must receive direct permission from a staff person to do so.
