Aug. 29

A beautiful day to praise and worship God as a whole HC community.

Moving out of our HOT classroom to a cooler temperature!

Praising God in chapel on Monday!

What a beautiful week it has been!  These kids are each carving out a pocket in my heart🥰.  As I get to know them better and better, I embrace what makes each one special, and I get excited as I see them enter the classroom each morning.

This week we dove into our school wide SER behavior system (ask your child what that means!), we worshipped as an entire Holland Christian student body at our outdoor convocation service, we've been studying the early history of how and why the Bible came to be written down, we've been working with place value, and we're practicing our reading.

We have quite a few details on the blog today. Please take a peek at all the information :)

Check those Folders:

- Walkathon Packets: We will have our Walk-a-thon on Wednesday, Sept. 25. This is an optional fundraiser that supports the needs of our Holland Christian schools. Please read the informational flyer inside and return the packet to the classroom or office by Monday, Sept. 23.

- September's Hot Lunch Menu

- School Picture Form & YEARBOOKS: Picture forms came home on Friday.  Our class school pictures will take place on Thursday, September 12 @ 9:45.

Please note:  Be sure to order a yearbook. This is a family's decision and is optional. It is always heartbreaking at the end of the year when most of the class receives a yearbook, but a couple kids don't because they forget to check the order form in September 😢! You may send the completed order form (even if you ordered on-line) to me at school any time between now and picture day

Upcoming Classroom Announcements:

Bible Test and Books of the Bible: We will have our first official Bible Test on Thursday. I will send home a review sheet on Tuesday. This is a graded test. We will talk about our "responsibilities as a student" and how reviewing for this test is a part of their student job.
I also challenged the students to learn the OLD Testament Books of the Bible. There is a QR Code on their planner. If they sing/say the books of the Bible to me by Friday, I will reward them with a donut from Tim Hortons. This is completely optional!

MAP and Delta Assessments: Over the next two weeks, we will be administring two assessments. We will take 3 online screeners (math, reading, and ELA) and one short math assessment on 4th grade readiness. I will make sure the students have the time to take the test and breaks throughout the test taking! These assessments are just a glimpse into your child's skills and abilities!

Homework: On Tuesday, your child will come home with their first round of homework. You will find a....

- Mad Min. - Read the instructions on the back OR adjust for their abilities of your child. DUE ON MONDAY.

- Reading Minutes Slip - Goal is to read 150 minutes over the next 7 days. DUE ON MONDAY.

- Math Minutes Slip - Goal is to practice math facts for 50 minutes over the next 7 days. I sent home a list of possible ways to practice, there are websites links on my Classroom Website, and I sent home instructions for how to sing up for Fact Fluency website that HC subscribes to.

Announcements from the Office:

Encore supplies: Parents - please make sure your students have an art shirt that can be worn in art class, and tennis shoes for PE!

Moms in prayer: Calling all parents interested in meeting to pray together! A group of prayer warriors will meet together on Friday mornings at 8:15 starting September 6 and meeting each Friday. Please check in at the Rose Park front office!

School Pictures: will be upcoming on September 11 & 12.

Save the date: Rose Park Fall Fest will be happening on Thursday, September 26th. 5:30-7pm

Morning Drop-off: We’ve had a great start to the year and it’s amazing to see all of your little ones walking independently down to their classrooms! Please encourage a quick unload of your children from the car to keep the lane moving in the mornings! Parents - if you can stay in the car that keeps things moving most efficiently.

Aug. 23

Welcome to a new school year!  I am thrilled to be able to share it with you and your child!  Already I am enjoying getting to know the kids and are appreciating their varying personalities.  God has blessed us all to allow us this opportunity to grow together in Him. This has been a wonderful week of settling in, getting to know each other, learning routines, and developing a cooperative and safe classroom environment.

On our second day of school, the kids had to fill out a "Find a Person Who..." paper. There were 16 squares that each had a prompt. Together, they needed to find someone in the room who matched/answered that prompt. It was fun hearing their conversations.

They are LOVING their reading spots!

We even practiced going out the emergency window. Why not make it fun?! ;)

They all have book boxes full of books! Love seeing their effort and hardwork in reading.

NOTES FROM MS. SNOEYINK:

Classroom Connections: This year you will be asked to keep up with our classroom happenings by regularly viewing this blog. You will receive a reminder e-mail from me with a link to this blog every weekend and it will be crucial for you to follow the link and browse around a bit.  On the CLASSROOM WEBSITE, you will see helpful tabs across the top for Field Trip Signs, Ways to Help, Math Games Links, and a link to the Blog.

Planners: This week, your child was introduced to his/her planner.  You’ll be able to keep up with what’s going on by checking your  planner daily and looking over any papers in the Homework Folder that comes home on Monday and Friday.  Planners need to come to school everyday and go in their desks in the morning so we can fill them and send them back home again.  You may also place notes/papers in there that need to be returned to school.  Be sure to instruct your child to turn in those notes/papers in the morning when they get to school. It is helpful to have 1 signature a week in the planner so I know that the parents saw their child’s assignments that week.

Gym Days: All students need a pair of gym shoes on gym day (Fridays and some Mondays).  They will be required to wear socks in these shoes, so if they wore sandals to school they should pack a pair of socks for their gym shoes.  If it is easier for you, you may just send a pair of gym shoes to stay in your child's locker at school.

Water Bottles: Because we don't have a drinking fountain in our room, each student should take a water bottle to school each day.  They will be able to refill it as needed, so one water bottle will be sufficient.

Baton: If you were at Rose Park last year and have not sent your child's baton back to school yet, you may do that at any time.

Paint Shirt: If you haven't sent a paint shirt to school yet, now is  a great time. 😉 Any oversized t-shirt that can get stained will do the job just fine.  No buttons please.

Headphones: If your child's headphones are not yet at school, please send those in as soon as possible. 👍

Donations: THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR DONATIONS.

Contact Information: I treasure your support in thoughts and prayers as we begin this year together.  If ever you have any questions of concerns, please feel free to contact me (dsnoeyink@hollandchristian.org).  I want to work together with you to make this a great year for your child!

OFFICE ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Rose Park Chapel: Preschool - 5th Grade (All school) Chapel worship will take place on Mondays from 10:30-11:00. Feel free to join us in chapel if your schedule allows. For safety and security purposes we ask that you first check in at the office. We will give you a visitor badge and we’ll welcome you in the small gym for worship and learning.

Communication: Please email your child’s teacher and rp@hollandchristian.org if you need to pick up your child early or if your child’s attendance will need to be adjusted.

School photos - Geskus will be taking our school photos Wednesday and Thursday September 11 & 12 - more specific information coming soon!

As a 4th grade, we gathered and practiced out our theme for the year. The students were paired up and had to lead each other through the playground just be using their voice. After the experience, we talked about the students had to trust their partner and know that they would lead them back safely. They had to follow and tune into their partner's voice. Seek out their voice. We then compared this to our walk with Christ. We need to Seek His voice and trust that He knows the path and is leading us!

A Hello From Ms. Snoeyink

I am excited about being your child’s teacher this year and can’t wait to get to know both you and your child better. With that, let me take a moment to introduce myself.

I am excited to say that this is my 10th year of teaching at Holland Christian. I love being apart of the Rose Park family! I am a graduate of Holland Christian and Calvin University and have a passion for teaching and sharing Christ with kids! Over the summer, my boyfriend (Nate) proposed and we will be getting married in December! This summer, I spent a lot of time planning our wedding. When I wasn’t planning, I spent two weeks in Europe, travelled to Maryland for my cousin’s wedding, visited Nate’s parents in New York, and spent lots of time with our family and friends.

Whether it is a conversation, joining them on the playground, creating art, or building a Lego creation alongside of them, I find abundant blessings through these moments of building relationships with God’s children. Each of the children in my classroom are uniquely created by the Great Maker’s hands. They are His. I value that time I receive to build those relationships with my students and their families. “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”
